“So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” – Luke 16:11
Where is your true wealth found? Our earthly wealth is fading but true wealth is in heaven and that is eternal. Pastor Don’s sermon on ‘Faith: The currency of heaven’ puts into perspective how our everyday choice to act in faith is really where the true investment for our eternal life lies. If acts of faith are required for us to accumulate wealth in heaven; then are we intentional about the choices we make when we are faced with situations daily? My answer to this is no, not always. There are days when I get so busy doing “life” that I tend to take matters into my own hands and try to solve them my way first and if that doesn’t work then I look to God for solutions. This is not putting God first or exercising my faith in my everyday life.
Pastor Don goes on to explain the meaning of faith – in Greek it is translated to ‘Psitis’. The word ‘Psitis’ in Greek means ‘belief’ (a deliberate decision); ‘faith’ (a feeling of deep-seated confidence) and ‘trust’ (enduring reliance). I know I have made a deliberate decision to follow Christ, I have confidence in God coming through for me but what I struggle with is the enduring reliance on Him and His goodness. I find myself constantly having to remind myself that God is good and He will make all things work for my good even though our surroundings or facts say otherwise.
When I face challenges, I have to be aware of what I watch or who speaks into my life, as this can take me away from the truth of who God is, and steal my joy and hope. If I let those things in, I know it rob me of the opportunity to act in faith and store up riches in heaven. Our life on earth is really short compared to eternity so why give into our flesh and stay in fear when God has so much more to offer you. Where is your focus in hard times? Do you really believe in His goodness and that He is able to turn it all for good? He is ABLE.
Dear Father, thank you for the gift of Faith. You are good and your goodness is for me. I give you all that is in my heart and my circumstances. Help me see what you are doing and live a life of complete trust in you. In Jesus Name.
Amen.
