A Personal Reflection Of Last Sunday’s Sermon - "The Lazarus Miracle" 09.06.24

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So, they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”  John 11:38-41

You play a part in your miracle. This hit hard for us as a family having to deal with tough seasons as a blended family and navigating physical illnesses pleading God for a miracle. I see God as someone who can do anything (even the impossible) then miracles should be what we expect from him but there is a part I need to play? In Pastor Luis Brito’s sermon he talks about the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead which involved them taking the first step and rolling away the tomb stone. It required them to act in the belief that God could do the impossible, that God could bring the dead man to life. It made no sense, after all it had been four days since Lazarus died but they did it and out came Lazarus. Have I played my part for God to move? Have I stepped out in faith by being obedient to whatever he asked me to do in all seasons of my life believing that He will come through for me, my family and all the prayers I have prayed? These are confronting and hard questions. Fear and doubt have been distractions I have given into when instead I should have fought and believed with what His word declares, and the price paid for me so I can live an abundant life. What miracle are you believing God for? What is your ‘Lazarus’ that you need God to resurrect? Declare who God is, Believe in what only He can do and Live a life of obedience to God. There is a miracle in whatever you are facing today.

Father you are a God of miracles. I believe in your power to heal and restore. Today I bring to you [name whatever it is you are seeking God for] and surrender it you. I believe you will come through for me. Show me how to live a life of that glorifies and honours you above all else. Amen.
